THIMBY

THIMBY, which stands for Tiny House In My Backyard, is an Aberdeen-area prefab and modular housing initiative in the United States with roots in sustainable and affordable housing development. Originally founded as a student-led programme at the University of California, Berkeley, THIMBY builds solar-powered accessory dwelling units (ADUs) using sustainable materials including reclaimed lumber and recycled denim insulation, with each home featuring energy-efficient systems such as 2.4 kW solar arrays and heat-recovery ventilation. The initiative pairs housing construction with workforce development through its Tiny House Building Academy, training local residents in construction trades while delivering move-in-ready compact homes for working individuals and small families.
