Buhaus

Buhaus is a Malibu, California-based prefab company founded by architect Doug Burdge and builder Nate Garnero in the aftermath of the 2018 Woolsey Fire, with the goal of providing fire-resistant, sustainable housing solutions to Southern California residents. The company repurposes steel shipping containers into compact, luxury living units of 160 square feet, designed to function as ADUs, backyard offices, or guest studios. Each unit is equipped with space-saving features such as a Murphy bed, an efficient kitchenette, and a full bathroom, and is capable of off-grid operation. Buhaus structures comply with California Wildfire Resiliency Codes, the California Green Code, and Title 24 Energy requirements. Drawing design inspiration from the Bauhaus movement's emphasis on clean geometry and functionality, Buhaus units are available at an all-inclusive price of $96,000.
